Just like all RCI ships, Independence OTS offers a lot of entertainment for kids and teens. Among best "fun hits" on the ship are the surfing simulator, and all the "ice skating" and "rock-climbing" activities. For adults, there is plenty of space for sports activities (modern fitness center, and even a boxing ring), many bars and lounges, the adult-only Solarium area. Each interactive playgroup is held at one of our onboard lounges and is designed to make playtime learning time too. Rustic Italian dishes are served with contemporary flair at Giovanni’s Table, a Royal Caribbean® favorite offering indoor and al fresco seating. This casual trattoria serves up a seemingly endless selection of Italian classics, like Gnocchi Al Gorgonzola, Melanzane alla Parmigiana, Risotto, Bolognese and much more.

Royal Caribbean fought long and hard to bag this classic, securing both the original rights to the play and to the movie. The performance you'll see onboard is part Newton-John/Travolta movie, part original play, blending the best of both -- and then adding a Royal Caribbean touch. The cabin decor doesn't feel modern either, with a green leaf-patterned carpet, blonde wood furniture and striped curtains. Independence of the Seas had a major refurbishment in 2018, but in the five years since then, its cabins have seen a lot of wear and tear. While staterooms of the same type are virtually the same on all decks, some are more desirable than others. The best cabins on Independence of the Seas are located on decks 7, 8 and 9, as they have no public areas directly above or below and are therefore quietest. They offer directions and maps to everywhere on the Independence using a board with a keypad on which passengers can enter their room numbers and find their way to the stateroom. What did bother me was the connecting door to the cabin next door. It was not open but sound carried — and this included my neighbor hacking and coughing loudly whenever I was trying to go to sleep. To compare, I couldn't hear anything from the cabin on the other side without a connecting door. Storage includes three towel racks and four hooks on the back of the door. The corner mirror hides a three-shelf vanity, and there's a long shelf below the sink.
