Beautiful images are required to sell products online. The SBA actually has a bunch of great resources to help you navigate this area. I suggest going through their guide to starting your own business. Each of those steps links to another post with a lot of great information. You can start selling the things you have made as a sole proprietor, under your own name, without having to register as a business. Until you are actually making a profit, you are still considered a hobbyist by the IRS and don’t have to report what you make.

Ideally, you want a system where you can print a custom image of your own design onto vinyl and create precisely what you need. You can do this with the right design and equipment. Using a standard inkjet printer is a great way to get some great images transferred onto stickers and to allow for a repeated image for multiple stickers. Printable vinyl is kind of perfect for making cute labels for all of your kids’ stuff, don’t you think? Because printable vinyl stickers have a permanent adhesive, they can stand up to washing well. Hand washing is recommended, however, to keep the decals looking good as long as possible.
Securing the Image to the Vinyl
The clear vinyl laminate sheets do a better job at protecting your stickers than a clear acrylic spray. But the spray is much cheaper and isn’t as thick as the laminate. Without the vinyl laminate, your decals might not hold up to water, so be careful about using them on mugs or outdoor signs. Ideally, you should be passionate about cutting vinyl, and already know how to work with a digital cutting machine. If you want to make iron-on decals instead of stickers, you’ll need heat transfer vinyl .

Place one hand on the sticker sheet and use the other to pull the rest of the laminate backing away. Keep pulling until you’ve peeled off all the backing and the whole sheet of stickers is laminated. Consider adding multiple designs to one document to print multiple sticker types at once.
Cut your Unwanted Spaces on your Vinyl Decals
And if you’re starting a new business, you’ll have enough on your plate without adding “learn photography” to it, so maybe ask a friend for a hand. For a matte, removable vinyl, go with Oracal 631. For a glossy, permanent vinyl, your best choice is Oracal 651. Don’t go too crazy buying a million rolls of vinyl right as you’re getting started.
Another method to cut your decals is to use your vinyl cutter and place your vinyl sheet on a cutting mat and feed it into your Cricut. Set the appropriate cut settings, line the mat with arrows on the left, and then hit on the touchscreen load's right. Send the file to cut, and the machine will ensure the decal is cut around the edges of your stickers. The first step to do is find your favorite design or logo sticker, which you can find ideas online. Looking for a fun way to jazz up your water bottle, laptop, or notebook?
Making monochrome text stickers and decals.
At this point, you could simple cut and apply your decals, but if you want them to be extra durable , then you should first apply a vinyl laminate overlay. On it’s own, inkjet printable vinyl is rated to last outdoor for one year, but when you add a laminate overlay, it will last for 4-5 years. I made my laptop skin a year and a half ago, and it still looks great, and I think the laminate is why it has held up so well.
If you are using a vinyl cutting machine, you should check the format of the image you need. Some cutting machines use Vector images, and not all graphics software can create these. Both CorelDraw and Illustrator do include this image format. Some newer cutting machines can accept images in other formats as well.
Using a Computer and Printer
Print the decal on vinyl paper, making sure the paper is facing the appropriate way to minimize waste. The ink will not cling permanently if you print a decal on the wrong part. If this is for personal use, I encourage you to go as crazy with the design as you want.
You are also welcome to download and alter photographs from the internet. Then you need to figure out what design you want for your stickers. Creating your design and preparing it to print is a big step – well done! Now we need to work through a few basic questions to make sure everything is ready for the next step. I love color, texture, and pattern with all of my crafty heart. Playing with yarn, paper, fabric, and paint is my very favorite thing to do, and if you like those things too, you are totally in the right spot.
Place it on and secure the tape overlap, which should be large enough to hold the cut vinyl securely as you remove the backing. Use the software of your choice to invent a creative design that you want for your vinyl sticker. You have a lot of freedom in this step since you can search through as many ideas as necessary. After getting the design, determine the size you want and leave a margin of about half an inch and print the design. You can make a pencil or pen mark on any side of your sheet to know which side the printer will print on. Once you have placed everything on one page, you should print the design by first test printing on regular paper.
When you're finished, let the mixture dry completely. There's no need to soak the stickers completely with the adhesive; just brush on a light coating. Use sticker sheets you find online with premade stickers you can print out. Or you can follow the steps above for how to make homemade stickers with cricut and you can turn your sticker passion into a great side hustle as well. Your cricut machine will now begin the operation of cutting out your sticker. That can be accomplished with cricut design space. This is important especially if your sticker design has a lot of different design elements.
Get ready, because soon everyone will be knocking on your door wanting special stickers printed and cut for all of their projects and events. You can get color effects and details that are impossible with regular adhesive vinyl, like watercolor, shading, and intricate line work. Pretty much anything you want to personalize, label, customize, or advertise. Press the vinyl firmly and ensure it adheres well to the surface, and voila!

It’s not too much different than making custom labels. Just load the right printer paper into your printer and format your print – don’t worry, we’ll explain more about supplies and formatting below. You know, there is a distinct difference between decals and stickers.
Print out pictures you find online, or pictures you've uploaded to your computer. Print them on thin computer paper, rather than photo paper, for best results. If that is the case, the process won’t be that complicated.
