The ‘short in back long in front’ hairstyles are exactly what they sound like and doesn’t require much clarification beyond that point. The back of the hair is heavy and the fringes have to be short in the front, suiting the face of the person wearing it. This cut is great for those who have round faces as it tends to thin out their face. For those with thin long faces, it can only make their faces thinner.
Side-Parted Voluminous Pixie Bob
The stacked back adds some height in the crown area and makes the neck visually longer. Blow out your hair and define the layers with a pomade to get an impeccable look. This is a perfect cut for women with fine, thin hair looking to make a statement. The side-swept bangs are a nice addition to the pixie bob silhouette and add extra height and character to the look. In order to be included in this category of haircuts, there must be a discernible difference in length between the front and the back part. These fashion trends have been heavily influenced by sci-fi comics, future films, and social media influencers known as “e-girls. There are many varieties available to fit everyone’s taste because these fashions are charming, edgy, radical, and occasionally even soothing. These looks would be ideal for you if you want to be charming, wear something distinctive, or just have a new haircut that is simple to wear all day. Another rare short in front long in back style for curly hair.
Short Rounded Pixie Bob
So if you’re thinking of which haircut to get, checking out the back view of short layered haircuts is a great move. The V-shape bob hairstyle is a popular choice for older women because its unique shape is perfect for creating the illusion of volume and thickness. To give your layered short hair more body, you can also curl your layers inwardly like this one.
With its eye-catching shade and unique layers, it’s the best option for showcasing your neck, jawline, and cheeks. Take this voluminous bixie for example – it wouldn’t be nearly as full if it weren’t for the teased and tousled layers. The pieceiness and disheveled look are strategic and stylish.
Perfectly Layered Pixie-Bob
Make sure that the perimeter stays blunt and that you add interior layers for movement. With cute short haircuts, it’s easier to commit to a partial highlight than a full color treatment. Opt for highlights on the top layers of your hair, leaving the underneath and roots darker. Longreads are the result of the hard work of multiple authors, several editors, a hair expert, a graphic designer, and other pros. Reflecting this teamwork, they are published under "The Editors" .
Extra Long Concave Hairstyle
Still, when you go with such light colors, layers are crucial. Otherwise, it can be hard to see dimension with a solid platinum or silver shade. The soft feathery layers are very elegant and classy — but still modern.
Back portion of the hair around the nape looks exactly like a bob cut in this case. But as you gradually move to the front, the hair will keep growing in length. I suggest baby bangs with curls to those clients whose frontal hair is on the thin side. It may be short and thin, but what I experienced is that the contribution it makes towards enhancing the curls is hard to match. I had to cut the front hair as close to the eye length as possible.
The long back hair was cut just below the shoulder and voila! A shaggy lob is a straightforward style for straightforward people. The shaggy touch makes it come out of its shell and present as something quite laid-back. Moreover, the long back has the potential to be a ponytail if it feels too much to have the hair flowing all over. For a variation, I have tried adding texture to the butterfly.
A short cut with layers is a stylish way to emphasize your hair’s volume. With a deep side part and choppy pieces throughout, the full-bodied, long pixie commands attention. A dark brunette flatters the style, but feel free to add color if you want to boost its wow factor. Opt for a pixie with short choppy layers that allow you to style hair in any direction and change up your style on a daily basis. Side-swept bangs frame your face nicely and add a touch of femininity.
Hairstyle for Heart-Shaped Face
A short blunt bang blended into short hair in front of the ears completes the look. These fringe hairstyles can be styled in numerous ways based on how long you like your bangs to be. It makes a woman’s appearance much younger and also provides more shape and dimension to it. If your hair has a lot of texture, keep the front-to-back gradient low.
Voluminous Layered Bob + Red Highlights
Anyway, your prom hairstyle should highlight your character and match all the elements of your look. Anyone with finner hair should take into account their hair’s natural texture before cutting layers. Short hair with light layers gains the right amount of volume and makes the style look fuller.
Soft Blunt Shoulder Cut
The tawny-brown color with light blonde highlights provides a lot of eye appeal. A shaggy pixie bob looks best when styled messy but can also be styled more sleek for a traditional vibe. Every bob is customizable, from the length and shape to the layers and color you add. Add more layers if you have thicker fuller hair for a more messy vibe. For a style that is youthful and timeless all at the same time, try this gorgeous choppy pixie.

You can strategically add highlights to compliment your own hair texture and length to create one of a kind cut and color. Pixie cuts lend themselves well to dramatic splashes of color. If you have dark brown hair, try a light copper as a complementary shade. Pixie cuts can be sweet and charming but when you play around with color and angles, you can create something edgy. A tapered cut brings crisp and clean lines to the style making it bold and daring, while high-contrast colors enhance that effect even further.
Best Eye-Catching Long Hairstyles for Black Women
The long front pieces and stacked back area help showcase your jawline, and the bright blonde highlights over chestnut brown hair look shiny and healthy. Add more shape and texture to an ordinary bob by cutting it into a long pixie with bangs. The deep side part and extra-long bangs have an unruly touch, while the neatly cropped nape section is sophisticated and professional. If you have any natural waves, feel free to scrunch them on the sides and top to add even more volume.
Short Hairstyles and Haircuts
Start by parting the hair horizontally, making layers to be cut. Deciding the length of your hair influences where your shortest layer will start. The client chose to keep her hair longer with textured layers. Aya Allathqani, a stylist and the owner of Bella Visci Salon in Houston, TX, shares knowledge on this trend. She guarantees that this cut fits all hair types and face shapes. One of the best ways is with blonde in the front layers, while paired with a shadow root.
Short in Back and Long in Front Bob for Thin Hair
Keep the perimeter blunt and add the texture and layers through the crown. Asking for a mixture of interior and exterior layers will allow the cut to lay more naturally and not look too thin. The super-edgy undercut pixie has all the right angles that will show off your sexy neck and jawline.
Maximize the inverted pixie bob with shorter layers to show off the color and texture of the style. The versatility of pixie hairstyles can’t be overstated, as not all haircuts are as suitable for women of all ages and generations as pixies are. My best advice for front-layered haircuts on long hair is to keep layers around the chin area shorter. This will help create volume that works in harmony with your longer cut. As well as draw attention away from your jawline whilst still framing it beautifully.
This is an easy and stylish look for anyone who has a natural wave or slight curl to their hair. Keeping it short at the bottom makes it manageable and gives it a neat, academic look. The longer, soft layers at the top encourage the natural wave of the hair for extra volume. If you don't want to dive right into a super layered cut, ask for subtle face-framing layers to slowly ease into a more dimensional look.
The fluent shags demonstrate irresistibly delightful textures. Definitely a fine style for those with high energy in their store. This foxy mullet is a vibrant style for the girls on a younger side coming for a hairstyle to me. To make the look extreme, sides can be shaved to add a mohawk-y vibe to it.
You can slick it back for an evening wear look, or add in some texture powder for a messy lived-in look. When you want something cute and easy to maintain, you should opt for a short pixie with layers. It’s an easy length to style on a daily basis and is very chic, especially with a side-swept fringe. You can change this look up with a fresh color or adjust the fringe, creating an ever trending style.
It’s obvious that short haircuts make them brighter and chicer. We have prepared a selection of 50 haircuts and hairstyles for girls of different ages. Easy short hairstyles can look like they take hours to get just right, but with properly layered cut, you can have a sleek hairdo anytime you want. Stacked, blended layers with longer pieces in the front create the right angled shape as well as an added lift to your roots. One of the most on-trend styles for short hair, the long pixie cut with bangs is cute and funky all year round.
Consider a long layered cut with extensions for fullness, length, and a face-framing style. The layers in the front help to create lift and body, while the extensions give length and thickness to women who have thin hair. You can never go wrong with long layers and flipped-out ends. Layered haircuts are one of the most popular styles and give your hair more body and movement.
I am going to give answers to those below so that you can find them here as well. It looks absolute best on voluminous hair, but there are other ways to make it look gorgeous. The hair is cut very precisely and calculatedly to make the design work. The butterfly with bangs is a highly cherished style by a special few. The wavy ends create an effect not even achieved by a traditional layered option.
It’s created by stacking layers on top of each other, resulting in a full-bodied shape. It can be worn super short, paired with fringe, or end at mid-length. Adding the inversion adds a modern twist to this classic and versatile haircut. From short hair to bangs to choppy layers to longer styles, there is no end to the different bob hairstyle combinations.
It is made of a protein called keratin, compacted and fused together. It has three distinct layers, and is made up of amino acids (proteins) held together by chemical bonds. Hair shaft pigmentation ensures multiple benefits including UV protection, thermoregulation and sexual perceptions.
Hair shaft
The genes that are expressed before the signs of hair follicle formation constitute the precise spacing and distribution of the follicles. Iron supports hair growth because it helps to form red blood cells that deliver oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicles. New hair cells then start to multiply at the base of the “empty” hair follicle to form a new hair, and the growth phase of the hair growth cycle starts all over again.
Anatomy, Hair
There are three scales in different types of healthy hair of animals – coronal, spinous, and imbricate. The healthy hair of animals also shows the continuous, discontinuous, fragmented, and stacked medulla. Let’s see some of the hair under microscope labeled diagrams that might help you understand every single feature. Here, I will show you the different labeled diagrams of the hair shaft and follicles.
Anatomy at a Glance
Each follicle has a sebaceous gland that produces lipid-rich sebum (an oil) which naturally protects the hair and moisturizes the scalp. The rate of hair loss may increase noticeably if the hair roots are damaged during the growth phase or if a lot of hairs go into the resting phase at the same time. If no new hair grows and replaces the hair, that part of the skin becomes bald. This type of hair loss is referred to as alopecia – regardless of how large the bald spot is or whether it affects the scalp or body hair. But baldness can also be permanent – one typical example is gradual hair loss in men (male pattern hair loss). It is so difficult to identify the inner and outer root layer of the follicle practically under a light microscope.
Each of your hairs grows from its own individual hair follicle. The hair bulb is situated at the base of each hair follicle, and contains your growing hair cells. These continually divide and push upwards, gradually hardening.
A healthy adult may lose about 70 to 100 hairs on their head per day. But because new hairs are always growing and replacing them, this natural hair loss isn't noticeable. Whether it is straight or curly will depend on the cross-sectional shape of hair. The more oval-shaped the cross-section is, the curlier the hair will be. At the base of the hair, the hair root widens to a round hair bulb.
Your hair shaft consists of three layers
Since hair growth is basically just a collection of dead cells being pushed along apouch (follicle) in the skin, it’s important to learn aboutskin structure and function too. The arrector pili muscle, a tiny bundle of muscle fiber, is attached to the outer sheath. When the muscle contracts, it causes the hair to stand up, otherwise known as goosebumps. The follicle is lined by an inner and outer sheath that protects and molds the growing hair. The inner sheath follows the hair and ends just before the opening of the oil gland, or sebaceous gland. Hairs from different animals show specific characteristic features under the light microscope.

Hair typically grows at the rate of 0.3 mm per day during the anagen phase. Hair loss occurs if there is more hair shed than what is replaced and can happen due to hormonal or dietary changes. Hair loss can also result from the aging process, or the influence of hormones. Note the both the internal and the external sheaths are continuous at their base with the papilla. This explains why the quality and appearance of the hair is dependent on the health and well-being of the dermal papilla. The external root sheath of a hair follicle is continuous along with the epidermis.
How to visualize the scales and medulla of hair?
The rest of the hair is anchored in the follicle and it lies below the surface of the skin. The hair root is enveloped by the hair follicle which is a skin appendage that lies deep in the dermis of the skin. The cortex forms the main bulk and pigment (colour) of your hair.
These nerves sense hair movement and are sensitive to even the slightest draft. Again, the cortex of the healthy hair consists of keratin and pigment granules. There are also air sacs (cortical fusi) in the cortex of healthy hair. The fur animal shows very fine to medium diameter, whereas the domestic animals show medium diameter in their hair shaft. Again, the medulla of the fur animal is generally serial or vacuolated, whereas the domestic animal shows the amorphous medulla.
The hair papilla, which supplies the hair root with blood, is found inside the bottom of the hair bulb. New hair cells are constantly being made in the hair bulb, close to the papilla. Each hair follicle is attached to a tiny muscle (arrector pili) that can make the hair stand up.
The color, size, and distribution of the pigment granules may vary within a single hair and among the different species of animals. Again, the oval structures are the solid bodies that are spherical to the oval. The medulla of a human hair may be continuous, fragmented, or absent. They possess a very regular and well-developed medulla in their hair.
You will find a very fine diameter in these crown-like scales compared to the others. There are strong bonds between the amino acids of these helices; thus, these bonds make strong hair. In fact, they are one of the strongest naturally occurring bonds in the world. When you perm it or relax your hair, these disulphide bonds are broken, and reset into a different configuration. This is what allows you to permanently change the shape of your hair. The texture of hair is related to differences in cross-sectional shape—straight hair is round, wavy hair is oval, and tightly curled hair is relatively flat.
It consists of long keratin filaments, which are held together by disulphide and hydrogen bonds. The health of your cortex depends largely on the integrity of the cuticle protecting it. Your hair shaft is the part of your hair that can be seen above your scalp.
Again, the hair shaft shows three important features – cuticle, cortex, and medulla- that I have already described with the labeled diagrams. The microscopic features of the connective tissue layer of the hair follicle are similar to the normal connective tissue. This connective tissue of the hair follicle is made up of tissue continuous with the dermis of the skin. The outer cell layers also give rise to the inner root layer cells.
How to visualize the scales and medulla of hair?
The production also decreases in men, but not as much as in women. Shea butter serves as a natural replacement for decreasing sebum. The, natural conditioner, sebum inters the hair shaft at the point where the internal sheath of the shaft enters the sebaceous gland. The dermal papilla is the most important structure in a hair follicle which is responsible for hair-growth. It is the dermal papilla, the cell of which divides and differentiates to give rise to a new hair follicle. People with hair loss tend to have higher levels of 5-alpha reductase and androgen receptor sites in the hair follicles within the hair lossregion of the scalp (1).
Outer root layer of a hair follicle
Each of the cells possesses a free edge that overlaps with the next cells. The outer covering of the pencil is similar to the cuticle of the hair shaft. Again, the wood of the pencil is analogous to the hair shaft’s cortex. In addition, the pencil’s graphite shows a similar structure to the medulla of the hair shaft.
Bold Hold Collection
Again, the hair follicle is the epidermis structure that develops as down growth of the epidermis into the dermis and possesses different parts. Hair serves a variety of functions, including protection, sensory input, thermoregulation, and communication. The hair in the nose and ears, and around the eyes (eyelashes) defends the body by trapping and excluding dust particles that may contain allergens and microbes. Hair of the eyebrows prevents sweat and other particles from dripping into and bothering the eyes. Hair also has a sensory function due to sensory innervation by a hair root plexus surrounding the base of each hair follicle.
Features of other hairs of animal body
In contrast to EDA and EDAR, members of the bone morphogenic protein (BMP) family of secreted signaling molecules seem to be inhibitors of placode formation. The antagonist named Noggin neutralizes BMP activity via regulation of lymphoid enhancer factor 1 (LEF1) expression [4]. Thereafter, the epithelial placode expands and generates the primary hair germ (stage 2). The second signal arises from epithelial placode and constitutes a cluster of adjacent mesenchymal cells which later develops the dermal papilla (DP). The ultimate signal from this primitive dermal papilla to the epithelial placode cells indicates a rapid proliferation and differentiation. This consecutive signaling process finally leads to the production of the mature follicle.
You will find the imbricate scales in the cuticle of the horse hair without protrusion from the hair shaft. There are fine pigment granules distributed evenly in the medulla of the horse hair. But, you will not find any oval structure in the medulla of the horsehair. The root of the hair follicle is elongated in cattle, and the medullary structure is continuous into the root area. Again, you will find some follicular tissue in the root of the cattle’s hair. Again, the cuticle scales are imbricated and with no protrusion from the hair shaft.
Whether your hair is black or brown depends on the density of melanin in your cortex. Dark hair has more of the brownish-black eumelanin, while blonde hair and red hair have more of the reddish-yellow pheomelanin. The white hair of a person with the inherited condition albinism lacks melanin altogether. As pigment production decreases with age, hair color lightens toward gray. White hair results from the combination of a lack of pigment and the presence of air bubbles within the medulla of the hair shaft. Because the hair itself is dead and inert, changes in coloration are gradual; your hair can’t “turn white overnight,” as some horror stories suggest.

17 Great-Looking Haircuts for Black Men This Fall, According to a Celebrity Barber.
The typical mammalian hair consists of the shaft, protruding above the skin, and the root, which is sunk in a pit (follicle) beneath the skin surface. Except for a few growing cells at the base of the root, the hair is dead tissue, composed of keratin and related proteins. The hair follicle is a tubelike pocket of the epidermis that encloses a small section of the dermis at its base.
Anatomy, Hair
You will find numerous ovoid structures with pigment granules in the hair shaft of cattle. These are the long with medium-shaped diameter hair in animals. But, the diameter of this head hair may vary in different animal species. The medulla of the head hair may be absent or continuous and relatively narrow.
The base of the hair keratinizes into a hard club and the hair, now known as a club hair, loses its anchorage. Club hairs are easily pulled out by brushing the hair, and the hard club can be felt at the hair’s end. When the papilla reaches the bulge, the hair goes into a resting period called the telogen stage.
You will find numerous pigment granules and oval structures in the hair of a rabbit. I tried to show you all the important features from the shaft and the follicles in the dog hair labeled diagram. The diagram of horses’ hair shows different important features from the shaft and follicle. You will find a great variation in the length and color of most of the hair specimens in different domestic animals. The diameter of the cattle hair is more coarse than those of human hair.
The alveolus of a sebaceous gland is pear-shaped and consists of a solid mass of polyhedral cells. You will find the small cells in the sebaceous alveoli at its outermost part. Again, the inner cells of the sebaceous alveolus are larger, rounded, and filled up with lipid. This cortical fusi, pigment granules, and large oval-shaped structures are called ovoid bodies. The cortical fusi is the irregular-shaped air space of varying shape and size. Under a light microscope, a medulla of an animal’s hair appears as a black or opaque structure.
After producing the new cells, they pass superficially and undergo keratinization. At the lower end of the hair root, these rounded nucleated cells become continuous with the hair bulb. The cells found in the hair bulb also continue with the stratum spinosum of the skin.
The germinatinglayer of the epidermisstarts growing down into the dermis, and forms the outside of each hairfollicle. Biotin (B7) is a water-soluble form of vitamin B that supports hair growth and defends hair from environmental damage. Biotin metabolizes amino acids from foods which helps keratin form in hair and is one of the most popular purported vitamins for hair according to the National Institutes of Health. In fact, as we get older, the number of hair follicles per square inch decreases as our bodies stretch and grow. Because hairs continue to enter the resting phase and then fall out, we are constantly losing hair.
The first sign of catagen is the termination of melanogenesis in the hair bulb. Follicular epithelium, mesenchyme, neuroectodermal cell populations and also perifollicular vascular and neural systems demonstrates cyclic changes in differentiation and apoptosis. However, any apoptosis is occurred in dermal papilla due to the expression of suppressor bcl-2 [11]. The duration of the phases changes based on the location of the hair and also personal nutritional and hormonal status and age [15, 33].

In the United States, a home fire was reported every 88 seconds in 2022, according to the National Fire Protection Association. The financial outcome of the fire is contingent on if you were a homeowner or a renter (we were the latter). Your insurance payment also depends on the amount of coverage you had, the cost of the personal items lost, and the deductible. Unfortunately, the process isn’t always so straightforward or timely, insurance companies are slow to pay or a mortgage lender buries homeowners in red tape. Since we were uninsured renters, a former co-worker started a GoFundMe for us, a common go-to for people and families who have recently experienced disasters. And the result is that the leaders of those universities land before Congress. But the president of Columbia University, which is the subject we’re going to be talking about today, is not one of the leaders who shows up for that testimony. Do they hold back, like at Harvard, where there were dramatic videos of students literally running into Harvard yard with tents. And so Columbia, really, I think, at the end of the day, may have kicked off some of this. But they are now in league with a whole bunch of other universities that are struggling with the same set of questions. And it’s a set of questions that they’ve had since this war broke out.
The Crackdown on Student Protesters
But even to us, we had no idea where this policy was coming from. And this suspension was really the first time that it entered most students’ sphere. Eliminate the encampment and send a message, this is not going to be tolerated. But in trying to quell the unrest, Shafik actually feeds it. She ends up leaving student protesters and the faculty who support them feeling betrayed and pushes a campus that was already on edge into a full blown crisis.

So Shafik’s dilemma here is pretty extraordinary. And now both ends of this spectrum, lawmakers in Washington, folks on the Columbia campus, are saying she can’t lead the University over this situation before she’s even made any fateful decision about what to do with this second encampment. You have faculty, including professors, who are not necessarily sympathetic to the protesters’ view of the war, who are really outraged about what Shafik has done here.

The day progressed, there was more threat of discipline. The students became informed that if they continue to stay, they will face potential academic sanctions, potential suspension. And that’s of a Middle Eastern studies professor named Joseph Massad. He wrote an essay not long after Hamas invaded Israel and killed 1,200 people, according to the Israeli government, where he described that attack with adjectives like awesome. Now, he said they’ve been misinterpreted, but a lot of people have taken offense to those comments. Members of Congress start calling for their resignations.
And so as Isabella and her colleagues at the college newspaper see it, there’s this overall chilling effect that occurs. Some students become fearful that if they participate in any demonstrations, they’re going to face disciplinary action. So fast forward now to April, when these student protesters learned that President Shafik is headed to Washington for her congressional testimony. It’s at this moment that they set out to build their encampment. And now these schools only have a week or two left of classes. But we don’t know when these standoffs are going to end.

The encampment is set up in the middle of the night slash morning, prior to the hearing. And so what effectively happens is they caught Shafik when she wasn’t on campus, when a lot of senior administration had their resources dedicated to supporting Shafik in DC. I think there was obviously a lot of intention in timing those two things.
Earlier this week, we called Isabella Ramírez, the Editor in Chief of Columbia’s undergraduate newspaper, “The Columbia Daily Spectator,” which has been closely tracking both the protests and the University’s response to them since October 7. After the break, what all of this has looked like to a student on Columbia’s campus. Yeah, this big moment that tripped up her predecessors and cost them their jobs, it seems like she has cleared that hurdle and dispatched with the Congressional committee that could have been one of the biggest threats to her presidency. So Columbia’s president has passed this test before this committee. And it turns out the Professor didn’t even realize he was under investigation.
But there are also communities that rely on people being able to trust each other and being able to carry out their classes and their academic endeavors as a collective so they can learn from one another. So in this case, that’s all getting scrambled. Since October 7, there has certainly been constant escalation in terms of tension on campus. And that became a huge moment in what was characterized as suppression of pro-Palestinian activism on campus, effectively rendering those groups, quote, unquote, unauthorized. So these students in real-time are beginning to test some of the things that Columbia’s president has just said before Congress. The Republican Chairwoman of the Committee, Virginia Foxx, starts reminding her that there was a student who was actually hit with a stick on campus.
